The future of the Democrats (and Conservatives?)

So as I said I was at the library this afternoon. In current issues of Harper's Magazine and New York Times Magazine there are articles conceding the defeat of the liberal movement in the US and what liberals need to do to re-claim their positions in the future.

Liberalism Regained, Building the next Progressive majority: Ron D. Daniels, Eric Foner, Ralph Nader, Kevin Phillips, and Frances Fox Piven

Wiring the Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy

Since they are the current issues I cannot take them out of the library. Once I can I will have more to say and provide quotations. The basic take away is that the neo-conservatives have done a better job in communicating their message ('wiring' claims there is no longer an underlying message for Democrats). 30 years ago the neo-conservatives undertook a systematic program, including think-tanks, media, etc. to get out the message. As others have said this kind of ground-work needs to be layed in Canada for Conservatives.

As I said more on this topic later.
