Canadian Conservatism (or is that conservatism)

Trudeaupia comments that Wilfrid Laurier can provide the Canadian philisophical underpinnings for a Canadian neoconservative movement (some interesting quotations from Laurier can be found in the comments to this post). He is somewhat concerned that Laurier was a Liberal. However I think this is perfectly acceptable. Many of the founders of the neoconservative movement in the US where liberals, who discovered the law of unintended consequences. A classic liberal is probably a good place to start.
