Shannon Davis does a great job in skewering Buzz Hargrove's latest column in the National Post. This inspires me to tell the commencement address story I alluded to earlier.
I graduated from Wlifrid Laurier University this spring with an MBA. Our commencement was conducted along with the BBA's, so it is an understatement to say that this is a pro-business crowd. The Chancellor of WLU is former NDP Premier of Ontario, Bob Rae. So who does he invite to deliver our commencement address but Buzz Hargrove. I remember standing in line in the bowels of the Waterloo Rec Complex as a fellow student announced this fact. The group was not impressed.
The commencement was in the middle of the election, so Mr Hargrove delivers a speech as to why we should not vote conservative. Now of course it was not put as simply as that, but the subtext was obvious. It was an absolute joke that we had to listen to a political speech at an apolitical event, delivered by an anti-business leader to business school graduates. The arrogance that lead to the decision to invite Mr Hargrove to speek and then for him to deliver the political speech that he did boggles the mind.
