I was out of the loop most of this week and I missed the National Guard Memo Hoax story, but in reviewing the story now it is clear how powerful the blog community is and the important role they play.
This role is fresh in my mind due to the anniversary of 9/11, the day many of us finally realized we are at war. This is a war with two fronts. The first is the obvious one, the war against the jihadists, wherever they may be. We have the American, British and coalition troops and leadership to thank for defending this front and pushing the fight beyond our borders and fighting the jihadists on their own turf.
But there is another front. This is on our own soil and it is between those who believe that we are at war and those who do not. Between those who want to wage a preemptive war and those who believe that this will insight more terrorism. Which side is correct? As they say, history is written by the victor. But I know which side I am on.
I often get frustrated by those who still live with a pre-9/11 worldview. During these frustrations my wife asks, "what are we supposed to do?" I think the American Bloggers like PowerLineBlog, Instapundit, DrudgeReport and thankfully hundreds of more are showing what can be done. In this war of ideas, the media is the battle ground. The current campaign is the US election. The traditional media has now proven that they will give up their journalistic integrity to ensure "Any But Bush". The right-wing bloggers (in general) believe that President George W Bush is the right leader for this time and are doing their part to expose the traditional media's laziness (or lies, if you are so bold) and defend this front.
In the World Wars of the last century, the general population made great sacrifices at home to help their soldiers abroad and to do what they could to help the cause they believe. In the war of ideas, bloggers on both sides are waging compelling battles and at this moment it is the conservative bloggers are writing the history.
