I hope he means it

In my every increasing attempt to bridge the partisan divide I highlight the latest from PM Martin. PM Martin visited Valcartier, QC yesterday and said the following (courtesy of the National Post)

...Canada must fight global terrorism, “the No. 1 plague,” he said, and must ensure the security of Canadian citizens. “That means that you have an enormous responsibility on your shoulders and I am here, I admit it, I admit it, because we have to reverse the disinvestment that you have experienced. “I bear a certain responsibility as finance minister,” Mr. Martin said, referring to his stint from 1993 until 2002 as finance minister in the Chrétien government. Later Mr. Martin told reporters that the two governments before his, led by Jean Chrétien and Brian Mulroney, both neglected Canada’s military. “It isn’t a question of political parties,” he said.

...Mr. Martin also wants to increase the number of reserve and regular forces and is committed to research and development to ensure that members of the forces serving abroad “have the most up-to-date technology possible.” “We have to be able to do what we say we are going to do,” thePrime Minister said. He feels he has “a responsibility, a duty,” to invest in more defence equipment and increase the number of men and women serving.

Let me clear about this, fundamentally, come hell or high water my word is my bond...

I will take a wait and see attitutude about this but I am hopeful.
