Paul Wells likes "Atomic Bomb" more than I do

Don't get me wrong, I do like the new U2 CD, but this borders on Bononian hyperbole:

I refer, of course, to the latest by those gracefully aging gentleman rockers, U2. It's stunning. What, you thought it wouldn't be stunning? Darker, rawer and (even) more heartfelt than its predecessor, it makes Beautiful Day sound like a Liberal campaign tune. I'm not even done listening to it for the first time, but I plan to spend the rest of the week listening to it 147 times. Jazz can wait. And I don't care how lame it is to like the popular band. If the popular band is this great, bogus rebel stance just gets in the way.

I do agree with Mr. Wells' sentiment that just because they are popular doesn't mean they are no good. It is a strange society in which quality and popularity is a oxymoron anyway.
