Nice article today in the comment section of the National Post (subscriber only). The original digging by Whatittakestowin (I wonder if he was in his pajamas) and joined by many among the Blogging Tories is starting to get noticed.
...All of these examples might surprise the millions of Canadians who make charitable donations in the belief that the recipients will put the money to uses that are, well, charitable, or at least connected to the activity in question. Do such donations not come with a reasonable expectation that such organizations will remain apolitical, or at least non-partisan? Since when is it the usual operation for, say, zoo or hospital administrators to assume that all their donors, let alone the people (or animals!) under their care, support a single political party? At minimum, such practices could discourage further giving. The National Post recently reported that Kamala, the Calgary Zoo’s painting elephant, has raised $6,300 for tsunami relief from sales of her art. Better not tell her she might also be a Liberal bag lady.
It reminds me of the line in the song Biko, by Peter Gabriel
You can blow out a candle
But you can't blow out a fire
Once the flame begins to catch
The wind will blow it higher
