Why deny the obvious child

Is the song in your head yet? Ah, whatever happened to Paul Simon?

Hey, speaking of Pauls, what happened to Prime Minister Paul Martin. The latest SES Poll (Hat-tip NealeNews) has Liberal support down 3% nationally (38%) and the Conservatives up 3% (29%). In Ontario the Liberals lead is down to 44% to 32%. Similarly the lead in Atlantic Canada is down to 41% to 30%.

The Toronto Sun theorizes that

THE SAME-SEX marriage debate and an almost daily dose of AdScam could be having an effect on the fortunes of Canada's two main parties, a new poll suggests. Liberal voter support has slipped three points to 38% across the country, but they've lost a whopping 10% in vote-rich Ontario.

Going back to the title of my post I wonder if it something more obvious than that. Then MP Paul Martin orchestrated a cout de Prime Ministerialship (is that even a word?) to great fanfare. The nation was tired of PM Jean Chretien and his crew. Paul Martin was seen as the white knight that could save the Liberal brand and move Canada forward. The promises where too numerous to name, but there was a general sense of excitment as to what Paul Martin would acheive as Prime Minister.

PM Martin has failed miserably to live up to his pre-PM billing and the Canadian people realize they have sold a faulty bill of goods. This is why the Liberal support is going down.
