The next boondoggle

As of this evening no deal has been reached on Institutionalized Daycare. I have two words for that...Thank God!

Full disclosure time. My wife and I raise two children on one income. We knew this would be a sacrifice economically but raising our children ourselves brings benefits that out weigh the costs. That being said I won't let a tax-payer funded, public-only daycare be implemented without kicking and screaming.

Why should my wife and I be expected to fund a daycare program for people who make twice as much money as we do while we get sweet zip. Put another way, why should we pay to raise other peoples children when we take a huge economic hit to raise our own. This is nothing more than a huge transfer of wealth from the one-income family to the two-income family. How can the supporters of progressive taxation possibly support this? Lower our taxes, let us raise our children the way we want and get the hell out of our houses!

However, MP Dryden is pressing on.

...Dryden said agreements on many points have been reached, but no deal will be made today.
"We're looking to create a system, and a system is something that has ambition, it has rigour to it, and something that is important," Dryden said, The Canadian Press reported.
Child-care advocates were part of the much-anticipated

style="font-size:85%;">
...The minority Liberal government has pledged $5 billion over five years and seems determined to have a deal in place before they wind up back on the election trail, possibly within two years.

...Dryden also said $5 billion is enough to kick-start a national system - even though a group of fellow Liberal MPs says that amount needs to be doubled.

Not only are people being bribed with their own (and single-income families) money, they are supposed to believe that a five-year committment by the government at a billion/year will stay steady. Not a chance. Ontario had to add a new tax to pay for Health Care expenditures that are going nowhere but up. How will we afford this program was it is fully up and running. Those Liberal MPs who say the amount needs to doubled are low-balling it.

Heres hoping the Liberals continue breaking this promise.
