young white men?

One of my favourite things about the blogosphere is the relative anonymity afforded to the bloggers. Unless the blogger decides to reveal it, we do not know their race, sex, religion, location...anything. All we know is their ideas. To me it is ideas that matter. The free exchange of information, opinion and debate is what makes the blogosphere such a unique and compelling (for me anyway) medium.

With that in mind I think of the post I made yesterday regarding the comments made by MP Rona Ambrose in the House of Commons. The first thing that a red-blooded male will notice about MP Ambrose is that she is attractive. I, for one, felt that was completely irrelevant to the story at hand and I applauded her for sticking up for people like my wife.

I have noticed a little buzz regarding the treatment that MP Ambrose received over at Bourque Newswatch and the comment that she is an Uppity Hotty. It is not clear to me if he crossed a line or not. I didn't think it mattered to the story so I didn't mention it. On the other hand I have heard MP Peter MacKay referred to as the most attractive bachelor in the House of Commons. Are such comments just par for the course of being in the public eye? Is this a case of "young white men" over-reacting or are they correct to try to stop such comments? I am curious to hear what you think, especially any female readers.
