I was actually going to write something original on this but the Toronto Sun beat me to it. (Hat-tip NealeNews)
...Why, since our federal budget surplus is $11 billion, is our health care system falling apart?
Why are people waiting months for crucial medical tests and years for needed surgery?
Why don't we have enough doctors or nurses?
...How many times have the Liberals told us that health care is the number one priority of Canadians?
How many times have Canadians told the Liberals that health care is their number one priority?
And yet instead of doing what any sensible Canadian would do when there's not enough money to pay for everything -- prioritize -- the Liberals keep hoarding our money or frittering it away on what they want.
On billion-dollar boondoggles, on a useless gun registry, on AdScam and, tomorrow, on a daycare program that offers nothing to parents who choose to stay at home and raise their kids.
Word is the Liberals may fund their $5-billion daycare promise by setting up yet another "foundation," recently blasted by the auditor general for their lack of public accountability. Since 1997, the Liberals have put $9 billion of our money into more than a dozen of these things to pay for everything from scholarships to new research.
...IT GETS worse: Sources yesterday told the Canadian Press tomorrow's budget will also earmark $1 billion for a multi-year, arm's-length (read: untouchable) foundation to fund "clean energy" projects to meet the pie-in-the-sky Kyoto goals. And you thought the gun registry was a boondoggle...
The voters were clear in the last election. They wanted the "health care fix for a generation". Even if they knew that was hype, they (we) want health care to be properly funded. I agree entirely with the Sun's Editorial Board, make some priorities, fund those that matter and dump the rest.
