This (courtesy of Paul Wells) is pretty well summarizes the conversation my wife and I had on this topic over dinner this evening.
Resolution P-90 allows the party to say: "Sorry. The party has no position on these matters. They are questions of conscience."
I'll leave it to all of you to tell me whether this is an excellent posture for a federal election or not. I know what I think, but I'm curious to see what you make of it. Leading question: How immune will this position be to the kind of attack that was the centrepiece of last year's Liberal campaign?
You can already hear the "Hidden Agenda" drum being beaten.
Update: Paul Wells finishes his thought on this concept after the Conservatives complete their own flip-flop.
...What's striking is that nobody saw this coming. Apparently sophisticated Conservatives sat around and nodded sagely when one of them said, "Let's throw in a trick motion that allows us to avoid debating the other motions." Or words to that effect. And they said, "That'll work." Or words to that effect.
