You know the Conservative Convention went well when Liberal-leaning blogs make this type of comment about Craig Oliver and Mike Duffy. (Hat-tip Rempelia Prime)
...So what's my point? The media is clearly going to give Harper a by on this convention. All they cared about was Party unity - they are ignoring the fact that party policies are still quite right-wing. "Liberal media" or not, the Conservatives have really been getting a free ride ever since the sponsorship scandal spoke. The only exception was the two weeks since the Liberal convention.
This was my favourite comment.
...The political roundtable was pitiful. After two Conservative spokespersons, they gave Deborah Grey equal time with Stephen McKinnon and an NDP spokesperson who sounded like a Conservative supporter! McKinnon pointed out how private members' bills on abortion are still allowed by Harper, and the NDP spokesperson said she thought that was clarified!
I saw the NDP representative defending the Conservatives as well. I was just as shocked. I think we may be beginning to see the new NDP strategy. Traditionally the NDP has attacked the Conservatives and allowed the Liberals to flank left and poach NDP votes. This representative said now that abortion is of the table the Liberals will have to watch their right-flank. Maybe the NDP will give the Conservatives more of a pass and create a left/right split whereby the NDP and Conservatives can each carve off votes. I can't be the only one who has heard the constant frustrations from the NDP and their claim that the Liberals sold out the "progressive vote". I think the NDP is going to get strategic about keeping the progressive vote.
