Rip it off

You know the theory by now. The Liberals, fearing the results of the Gomery Inquiry, knowing that their standing in Quebec will be worse after the report is released, have slipped in the CEPA modifications to the budget to trigger an election. The speculation is that the Liberals know that testimony in front of the Gomery Inquiry will only become more damning, i.e. they know something we don't and they need a snap election before this comes out.

The thing is, I don't buy it. Or at very least if this is the case it is a mistake. The Liberal brand in Quebec is very damaged and it is going to take years for this to be repaired. An election in 2 months or 12 months from now will make no difference to this. If there is some more information to come out then the best thing the Liberals could do is leak it now and get it over with. This water torture approach is not working.

It is time to grab that bandaid covering the Liberal wound and rip it off. Only the light of day, and time, is going to heal this one.

Update: In light of apparent developments as of April 1, the Liberals need to rip this off and fast! It appears that we are just days from things hitting the fan.
