O.K...we are on to day 2. I will link to what I find. (Day 1 is here)
First we have MP Solberg.
Gomery goes nuclear
My Blackberry was buzzing last night as reporters were looking for Conservative reaction to what's been happening at Gomery. Problem is, it's all under a publication ban, which is too bad cuz it sounds like Judge Gomery has rolled over a really big rock and a lot of creepy crawlies came scurrying out from underneath. The media folks were absolutely drooling at the prospect of being able to report on this, and out of frustration some may simply explode over the course of the weekend, which would make a terrible mess.Don't touch that dial.
I don't know how long the lid is going to stay on this.
The National Post has this story (tips to Whatittakestowin and Angry in the Great White North)
...Former advertising executive Jean Brault broke down in tears on the witness stand at the Gomery Commission yesterday. It occurred in mid-afternoon as Mr. Brault was being grilled by the inquiry's chief counsel, Bernard Roy
...Mr. Brault appeared to tire under the relentless questioning as the day wore on, and at one point buried his head in his hands and began weeping. He is scheduled to resume testifying today. The incident came just before the commission's regular mid-afternoon break, which the judge then called. After a 20-minute respite, a composed Brault returned to the stand and resumed his testimony
via Norman's Spectator (who is taking the day off...to honour the gag order) comes this story from the Globe and Mail.
...Most opposition MPs have not heard details of the recent testimony at the Gomery commission because of the publication ban, and insiders indicated they have not yet grasped what it means for the political landscape.
Edmonton Conservative MP James Rajotte said he has not heard the new testimony, but explosive revelations would force the party to judge whether it is better to try to force an election, or wait.
"We need to be very careful," he said. "Do we want Gomery to keep going and get to the bottom of it, or do we need a new government to ensure we really do that?"
And this story from the National Post.
...Geoff Norquay, a spokesman for Conservative leader Stephen Harper, said talk of an early election was "nonsense," though he did note that last week saw some "clearly interesting developments" at the sponsorship inquiry.
James Moore, a Conservative MP from British Columbia and the transport critic, said speculation about an election was "news to [him]."
"However, I have heard that things are getting worse and worse for the Grits on this front," Mr. Moore said.
"This is the stuff of which authors make a lot of money," said one senior Tory insider, commenting on the latest Gomery testimony.
An opposition MP, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "I've heard some of the Gomery stuff and if it gets out ... it won't go well for [the Liberals]."
...A senior Conservative strategist also said the election machine has not been kicked into high gear: "There are lots of rumours, but my bat phone hasn't been ringing."
What is with the CBC? I still can't find a whiff of this on their website!
Update: The Oracle of Ottawa has plenty of Gomery related stuff.
Update II: Warren
Kinsella finally weighs in...riddle style.
Update III: Kate McMillan is reporting that an International news source may do an end around on the Gomery publication ban. That could be fun...
