Speaking of candidates

Todays Post arrived with Russ Courtnall on the cover. Apparently the Conservatives are wooing him to run in the Victoria riding. And you can always use speed on the wing! I wonder what Wendel Clark and Gary Leeman are up to. We can use the Hound Line in Parliament.

Update: Ginna of Gin and Tonic points out that I wasn't exactly fair to Mr. Courtnall as he is well respected in his community for his charitable work.

In serious news, the Conservatives have convinced former Quebec Provincial Liberal Cabinet Minister Lawrence Cannon to run in the Pontiac riding. This is a winnable riding in the next election and it is reported that he is popular. Could be quite a coup.

..."To form a national government that reflects true loyalty to Canada, we must have strong representation in the province of Quebec," he said Tuesday.
"I believe that Mr. Cannon's decision to join the Conservative Party of Canada will be a tremendous asset in building a new, clean federalism in Quebec."
Cannon said his candidacy presents a third choice for Quebecers, who will no longer have to choose only between Liberal corruption and Bloc Quebecois separatism.
Cannon was communications minister 14 years ago in former premier Robert Bourassa's Liberal cabinet.

Canadian Press is reporting that the Conservatives are also wooing former Global News anchor Peter Kent - not to be confused with his brother Arthur "Scud Stud" Kent.

They also report that the Conservative were trying to get Mario Dumont to run. This is the best they could get:

...Dumont encouraged Quebecers in the last federal election to reject the Liberals and Bloc Quebecois and vote Conservative. He said Tuesday he wouldn't be surprised to see Harper's team form the government after the next federal election.
