Not a good sign

The first of many Liberals has announced they won't be seeking re-election. To be fair MP Peter Adams is 69 and has been an MP or MPP for 18 years. He deserves to have a good retirement and may have made this decision with or without Adscam. Good luck finding a high profile replacement though. However this may be as safe a seat as the Liberals have in the upcoming election. As for others:

...In the last week, speculation has grown about other Liberal MPs not running in the next election. On Friday, Sun Media reported that many Liberal MPs were considering quitting politics rather than facing an angry electorate in the upcoming campaign. In recent weeks, the Liberals have fallen behind the Conservatives in all national polls. "I have reason to believe that there's a number of people who are going to announce they're not running," one unnamed veteran Liberal MP told Sun Media. "I talked to a few (this week). There are going to be some people who are just going to say, 'I'm outta here. I'm not running.' "

The latest to announce that he will not be running is former Environment Minsiter David Andserson (hat-tip Nomination Watch)

..."I believe it is now time for me to move on to other challenges," Mr. Anderson, 67, said in a terse statement faxed to media outlets from Ottawa. Mr. Anderson publicly voiced his displeasure when Prime Minister Paul Martin dumped him as environment minister.

..."Wow, double wow, triple wow," said Michael Prince, a professor of social policy at the University of Victoria.
"I thought the last time was his last race and some thought maybe even that was one too many," Prof. Prince said.
"And with the humbling experience of being dropped from cabinet and the less likely prospects of getting back in a majority government . . . I guess [the decision] makes sense."
