Roy Green's Question Period

Update: May 3rd - Roy Green mentioned this post on the air. How cool is that!

The Prime Minister gave an interview on the Roy Green program today and the PM gave his best mix of skate, evade and answer any question regardless of what was actually asked. I tried to filter the (non) answers as best as I could to present the results.

1) Mr. Green asked the question that Kate McMillan wanted answered last week. Who gave him the advice to not set up the Gomery Inquiry? Well many people, especially newspaper columnists. (Ed: Well I get we can rest assured that the PM does not base his opinions and actions on the advice of the print media and political pundits. The courage!)

2) You talk about a
Conservative collusion with BQ but one of your senior Cabinet Ministers is a co-founder of the Bloc Quebecois? Jean Lapierre left the BQ and is a great Canadian! And while I am at it Tony Valeri is a great House Leader!

3) Do you agree with MP McCallum’s assessment on McGuinty that he is furthering the cause of the separatists? Premier McGuinty is not a separatist and I want to make a deal.

4) You have said that you want to model the Federal daycare program on the Quebec model, but it is drastically over-budget? Let's ignore the cost overruns and model on their objectives (Ed: we will get a the results on a tenth of the cost)

5) Your budget states the daycare money does not have to go into daycare? I assure you that the provinces that we make deals with will spend it on daycare.

6) Why do support a program that discriminates against the one-income families? There is no reason why one-income families can’t send their children to "early learning" centres as well (Ed: well, other than the fact they wouldn’t be able to afford it)

7) Who received the contracts with Gun Resistry? We all understand there were problems but have worked hard to correct problems. 7a) Do you know who got the contracts? No. (Ed: See no evil, hear no evil - sound familiar?)

8) Why have you not done more to raise the age of sexual consent from 14 to 16? It is being debated; we need to allow the debate to happen. That is why I have given the parliamentary committees more ability to reach out; to bridge the democratic deficit. (Ed: this is why the Liberals ignored the majority vote denying Glenn Murray and ignored the will of Alberta to elect their own Senators)

9) What about the unaccountable nature of the Foundations? CFI has been great

10) You promised to reduce waiting times but people are dying while waiting, what can you do to correct this and why is it acceptable for Quebec to have private emergency clinics? The Health Minister is taking action against Quebec (Ed: really?) and to fix the waiting times we gave the provinces increased funding and we will do scientific benchmarking to determine the wait times. We also publish the wait times so the public will know how long they will have to wait (Ed: I guess it will be improvement by guilt…Ontario you suck, why do we have to wait 7 months for an MRI when Manitobans only have to wait 6 months?)
