A legislator from Canada's ruling minority Liberals unexpectedly quit the party on Monday and said he would sit in Parliament as an independent, a move which weakens the creaking minority government.
Pat O'Brien said he was leaving to protest against what he said was the government's failure to allow enough debate on draft legislation allowing same sex marriage. O'Brien strongly opposes the legislation.
Just when it looked like the Liberals were catching a break. It is funny. The Liberals pass the confidence motion and then the bribes-for-votes controversy hits full steam. Bernard Landry quits which excited the Liberals and now MP O'Brien quits.
It is now officially impossible to keep up.
