Happy Canada Day everyone. Just getting ready to take my daughters to the Canada Day parade. I was also reading this article linked to by NealeNews.
While Liberals are full of baloney on many issues, they're right about one thing. That is, the sourpuss attitude that too many Conservatives have toward Canada.
To put it bluntly, too many Conservatives sound, far too often, as if they hate Canada. As if they'd rather be anywhere else but here.
I know what the editorialists of the Edmonton Sun are talking about. It is actually very wise strategy on the part of Liberals that cause this. They have defined Liberal policies as Canadian Values so you have a very careful balancing act when trying to criticize the Liberals. If you are not careful you come off as anti-Canadian. I may have come close to that line
in the past, who knows, I may have crossed it. But in the end I am as proud a Canadian as there is.
As they say, all politics is local. I love the street I live on. I love the neighbourhood and the sense of community amongst my neighbours. I love seeing my neighbours in Church on Sunday. I love how well I fit into this region at large. I live in a great Province. I love the vastness and the beauty of this Country. I have not seen it all but I have seen much of it. I love walking down West Broadway in the early evening and seeing the lights on the mountain-top ski hills. I love the vast room for road expansion from the Edmonton Airport to downtown - the spirit of optimism in that is infectious. I love Joey Tomatoes in Calgary. The contrast between exciting downtown Toronto and the calm of the Muskoka Lakes, just 2 hours north, is simply amazing. I love looking at the statues around the Parliament buildings. Is there anything better than Crescent Street in the summer? Maybe the walk to the Chateau Frontenac.
If I missed anything it is because I haven't seen it yet. One day I will drive across the Prairies and drive to Halifax. Memories waiting to happen. A majesty yet to behold. In a sense that is what Canada is. There is a greatness behind her. And I am optimistic that her best days are to come.
So again I say, Happy Canada Day.
