I can't have been the only one who, upon hearing the passing of MP Chuck Cadman, thought about the political implications. Out of respect I avoided talking about any of this. Apparently a one day moratorium is enough as the Globe and Mail begins the speculation today. (via NealeNews)
I am not sure how close to "the line" this but here goes...It is a little ironic that MP Chuck Cadman reason for voting with the Liberal government was that he wanted to represent his constituents. Now the Liberals worry about the politically ramifications of a by-election so they are going to let this seat remain vacant as long as possible, hence no representation.
This is yet another thing that should not be left to the discretion of the goverment. When MP Lawrence O'Brien passed away in a Liberal safe seat there was a quick by-election. Since Surrey is up for grabs between the Conservatives and NDP there is no such hurry. Why is this allowed to be?
