Dehumanizing the enemy

Sometimes James Travers really goes off the rails into full lunacy. Most of the time I enjoy his writing but with a column like this I must call him out.

...Hillier's messages have a certain appeal. Dehumanizing the enemy is as old as war...

Let me say that General Hillier is not dehumanizing the enemy by call them scumbugs. He is calling a spade a spade. The fanatical Muslim terrorists have done a nice job of dehumanizing themselves. Suicide Bombings. Hacking of heads. Targeting civilians. This is not humane behaviour. These people are reprehensible. They are...scumbags.

At least we have a new meme. The root cause is no longer poverty. It is now virulent nationalism. But of course it not a clash of civilizations. Huh? Virulent nationalism "to compel modern democracies to withdraw military from the territory the terrorists view as their homeland". That is all fine and well if you believe that the homeland is just Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately is more like one worldwide nation under Allah. What the heck, appeasing virluent nationalists worked out really well in the 1930's. How bad could it go now?

Update: Damian Brooks isn't impressed either.
