pre-post on KW BBQ

I will have more on this later but I have one quick story to pass along.

For reasons to complicated to get into on this blog not all of my family knows I write this blog. Well, depending on what happens with the Kitchener Record, I could be busted.

So here I am, minding my own business, listening to MP Gary Goodyear speak, when MP Stephen Harper finally arrives at the BBQ. Ajmer Mandur, CPC Candidate for Kitchener-Waterloo goes to the podium to introduce him. So Mr Harper decides to stand right beside me as he waits to go on - with about 4 cameras flashing constant pictures. To make matters worse my daughter, who is cute as a button, is standing beside me playing with a Conservative Party balloon. A couple of times the balloon bounced right to MP Harper who passed it back to my daughter. That really set the cameramen off. I have two hopes. 1) They were not Record photographers, 2) If they were it would make MP Harper look too human so they would delete any pictures.

I find out tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Update: My secret is safe! As I suspected the Record pushlished the most unflattering picture they could find to support their article. Said article was pretty fair (The Record is subscriber only, so sorry, no link).

...Dressed casually in a dark blue shirt and dress pants, Harper initially looked tense as he stepped out of the van that ferried him to the barbeque spot. About 300 supporters were in attendance.

At the podium, however, Harper was relaxed and at home. He criticized Liberal corruptiona and said the Liberals could not be trusted.

He actually said more that this. Referencing the Conservative policy on day care, increased military funding and lower taxation.

...When he put on an apron and flipped burgers, Harper looked like any average, middle-aged dad.

...Les Mackenzie [ed: Fellow Blogging Tory] agreed Harper's media image doesn't represent the real man.
"I watch a lot more than the sound bite and I already hold him in high regard," he said.
In Ontario, Harper is concentrating on areas the Conservatives think they have a good chance of winning, said Caroline Stewart Olsen, his press secretary.
