NealeNews links to an open letter by Dr. Tariq Abdelhaleem to PM Martin asking the PM not fear-monger and instead look at the root causes of the terror attack in London. Of course this route cause is Britain's participation in the neo-conservative American imperialist invasion of Iraq (now that is a mouthful). He asks the PM to:
- Stop the fear-mongering amognst Canadians. The same fear-mongering that has crippled the American population in giving up their freedoms and accepting a military-run government.
- Acknowledge the real causes behind these attacks and learn from others experiences.
- Not to participate in or support American imperialism, which is otherwise known as war-on-terror.
Hey, I am sure this is all music to MP Carolyn Parrish's ears but it is a little too late for that. We are already knee deep in Afghanistan and our policy has just changed to dig in a little deeper. Remember Afghanistan? The "good front" of the war-on-terror. Is Dr. Abdelhaleem suggesting that we should have left the Taliban in place there?
But I can't make the case as well as Australian PM Howard did last week.
...Can I remind you that the murder of 88 Australians in Bali took place before the operation in Iraq. Can I remind you that the attacks of the 11th of September occurred before the operation in Iraq. Can I also remind you that the very first occasion that bin Laden specifically referred to Australia was in the context of Australia’s involvement in the liberating of the people of East Timor. Are people by implication suggesting we should not have done that? When a group claimed responsibility on the website for the attacks on the 7th of July they talked about British policy not just in Iraq but in Afghanistan. Are people suggesting that we shouldn’t be now in Afghanistan? When Sergio de Mello was murdered in Iraq, a brave man, a distinguished international diplomat, a person immensely respected for his work with the United Nations, when al Qaeda gloated about that they referred specifically to the role that de Millo had carried out in East Timor because he was the United Nations administrator in East Timor.
