NealeNews links to the latest MP Parrish escapades with the following, She won't shut up!
"We're sending in armed troops to kill people (in Afghanistan). This is a drastic change in direction. I don't think anybody has consulted with the Canadian public. The first time Canadian soldiers come back in body bags, you just wait for the outcry,"
I actually think she is half right. Our role in Afghanistan has not drastically changed. We have been there since day one to liberate (you could even say invade if you like) the country from the grips of the Taliban, establish a democratic regime and root out al Qaeda. However I think she is right that there will be a public outcry "the first time Canadian soldiers come back in body bags". I fear that a coalition of the NDP, BQ and Chretien Liberals would form around such protests and put a lot of pressure on the Martin government to pull out of Afghanistan. It would be up to PM Martin to build a coalition with the Conservatives to keep the troops there. I am not sure if either would want to do this. It could get very interesting.
In the ultimate irony here is an exerpt of her letter to Defense Minister Graham,
..."I implore you to muzzle the beast [Gen. Hillier], assume command of Canada's agenda in your usual articulate, dignified and intelligent way. Let the Canadian public know Gen. Hillier does not speak for our government."
At this point who would Canadians prefer to have muzzled?
To his credit, this is the response of Defense Minister Graham,
...he stands behind Hillier "100%" and suggested Parrish may not understand the difficulties facing troops in Afghanistan.
and we can put to rest any speculation that the Liberals are going to accept her back into caucus.
