The Liberals actually want to win the next election.
Let's review one key fact. The Liberals established that the only confidence votes that they recognize are money bills and Throne speeches. Well the budget has passed so no dice there. There is no Throne speech scheduled until the spring so no dice there either.
This fall mini-budget is nothing more than creating an escape hatch from Gomery should the Liberals polling numbers go a little further north. In other words it is smart politics. Now, it would run counter to every that PM Martin said during his grovel to the nation speech but do you really expect anything more from the Liberals at this point?
