The Leafs have signed St. Louis Blues Defenceman Alexander Khavanov for $1.25 M. He is a fairly solid player and if my memory serves me got some power play time with the Blues. I guess that shows how much faith the Leafs have in the Carlo Colaiacovo.
That leaves them with about $5.5 M to spend on forwards. As I mentioned before, this is a desparate need for the Leafs and if this signing leaves them unable to sign at least 2 fowards who can play on the first or second line then this sgining was a mistake.
Update: So much for the Eric Lindros rumour. Meatriarchy is reporting that Lindros has not be hurt enough lately to qualify for the performance bonus clause in the CBA. With bonuses Lindros was looking for >$4M. There is no way the Leafs (or anyone else for that matter) guarantees that much. Can he be had from $2.5M? Can the Leafs get too solid forwards for $5.5M? Why not offer Mark Messier league minimum?
