According to Canadian Press
...A substantial increase in the federal child tax credit could very well be a key condition of further NDP support for Prime Minister Paul Martin's Liberal minority government.
Former New Democrat leaders Ed Broadbent and Alexa McDonough say that Canada has the money to drastically reduce poverty, especially among children.
I am confused on a couple of points. Whenever the Conservatives bring up the concept of a tx break its seems they are criticized by some on the left. The criticism is that tax breaks do not help the poor because the poor do not pay taxes already. How is this different?
Also, how is a federal child tax credit and different than a federal childcare tax credit proposed by the Conservatives? What is the difference here?
Update: Macleans clears things up.
...Increasing the child tax benefit - a monthly payment made to eligible families with children under 18 - should be one of the conditions his party puts on backing the next federal budget, he said.
...Neither Broadbent nor McDonough would say how much of an increase they would like to see, but in the last federal election the NDP called for the benefit to increase to $4,900 per child.
Depending upon the number of children in the household, the current benefit ranges from $1,420 to $1,722 a year per child.
It is not a tax break, it is a transfer of wealth. Classic socialist policy so everything is still stable in the world. What is not stable is that the CPC daycare program is another transfer of wealth. Socialist Canada wins! However the CPC plan provides much more flexibility and will actually benefit my family. Since I vote in my own best interests, I will take the CPC plan over the others.
P.S. Every party buys people off. Leftists do it with others peoples money. Righties with their own money.
