MP Stephen Harper has requested the government stop the double-dipping on gas taxes. That one is a gift for the Conservatives. Can promote their policy of lower taxation as well as being populist at the same time. Easy pickings.
...Conservative leader Stephen Harper says Ottawa could reduce the price of gasoline between two to five cents a litre without even breaking a sweat.
He renewed his call Wednesday for the federal government to stop double taxing gasoline through the Goods and Services tax.
Harper said Ottawa could also reduce its surtax on gasoline, introduced in the mid-1990s, as a deficit-fighting measure.
