Yeah, but they're not scary

John Crosbie laments the future in today's Toronto Sun.

...One would have thought such events [Sponsorship Scandal, bribing MPs] would convince Canadians to take action to remove the Liberals. This latest poll indicates they have made no such decision as yet.
As the summer ends, I ask whether there is any hope for the restoration of a vigorous, competitive Canadian political system with honest debate about real issues?
Are Canadians prepared even to contemplate the return of Martin's government to office with this record of failure and lack of care about the need for honesty, truthfulness, morality, ethics and idealism in public service and political life?

I don't think it is time to despair, yet. Most of the Liberals gains have been in the summer, with PM Martin in hiding. His first public descision was to appoint Michaelle Jean, further proving how inept he is. Once the fall session begins Canadians will once again be reminded of this. Furthermore, once the Gomery reports are issued corruption will very much be on the table again. If all of this happens AND the Liberals win again in February then you can despair. Pre-emptive desparation is never a good policy.
