You would think with the vaunted resources of the MSM (i.e. a phone) people like Gloria Galloway would get her facts straight. I guess when you have to attack the Conservative Party three times a weeks sometimes you have to cut corners.
According to Ms. Galloway the Conservatives are having to find replacement candidates including,
...Two candidates resigned in the Toronto suburb of Scarborough during the past weekend. Tim Dobson, the Tory who placed second to Liberal Dan McTeague in Pickering-Scarborough East last year, said he was no longer interested is running, as did Tony Backhurst, the Tory candidate in Scarborough-Rouge River, who also ran in 2004.
Problem is that Tim Dobson has not resigned.
"News of my demise has been greatly exaggerated" - Oscar Wilde's memorable quip came to mind as I read Gloria Galloway's piece on September 13th ("Tory Leader Hunts for New Troops"). The article states that I am "no longer interested in running". For the record, I have never expressed these sentiments to Ms Galloway, to anyone at the Globe and Mail or to anybody anywhere, anytime. I look forward to fighting the next election side by side with Stephen Harper and carrying the Conservative banner to every corner of our great riding, Pickering-Scarborough East.
Signed, Tim Dobson Candidate
(still) Conservative Party of Canada
Pickering-Scarborough East
How does something like that get into print? Especially when it is not very hard to check.
The truly ironic thing about all of this is that this is the second time in a week that Gloria Galloway has not had her facts straight. If you are a regular reader of blogs you already now about the deal with "Party Organizer" Carol Jamieson. I will not get into the minutae of the debate - you can check it out for yourself here and here on Stephen Taylor's blog. But the track record goes well beyond this week. Ms. Galloway is the master of the "anonymous source" when requried to take a pot-shot at Stephen Harper. But I have taken Gloria Galloway with a tonne of salt for a long time now.
