On delays

Good for the Toronto Star editorial board. They are not promoting more wiggle room for the Martin government - they are not in favour of delaying the (first) Gomery report.

...Gomery's findings will be widely publicized. And Guité is the official who ran the program to promote Canada in Quebec that saw money go to Liberal-friendly ad firms that allegedly did little or no work. Brault ran a firm that got contracts.
All this leaves Justice Martin worrying, understandably, about the report tainting a jury. He might prefer to have the parties involved delay publication until after the trials.
To this, Prime Minister Paul Martin's government should say No.
So should Justice Gomery.
Canadians have waited long enough for this report, and its findings on alleged mismanagement, abuse and outright fraud. The public's right to a full and prompt accounting should not be trumped by the accuseds' right to a fair trial.

It is looking more and more like the Conservatives want a fall election. Which makes it more likely that the Liberals will try to find a way to delay the report. I am with the Toronto Star. We have waited long enough. We need to read the report ASAP and then make our own judgment on the Liberal Party of Canada.
