Deja vu

All over again. According the National Post Opposition Leader Harper is again pushing for an election.

Conservative leader Stephen Harper indicated yesterday he will continue to push for a late fall election, despite conceding his party doesn't have enough public support to form the next government.
Speaking to reporters in Calgary, Mr. Harper admitted his Tories may need a boost in the polls from the fallout of the Gomery report to challenge the Liberals in the next vote.
When asked if his Conservatives could drum up the votes needed to win the next election, Mr. Harper said: "Probably not right now."
"I think we would have to see after the Gomery report comes out," Mr. Harper said of his party's election chances.

However the NDP is not interested and they are trying to spin that it is an election that Canadians don't want. Let's cut through the spin. The Conservatives want the election in the fall because they stand a better chance of winning in the fall than the spring. The NDP does not want an election for the exact same reason. The NDP is sitting pretty right now. They almost of their "central role in government" and depending on how the independents sit they practically do. The NDP re-wrote the Liberals budget and are in the position to get even more for their base. Why would they want to give it up? Especially since the best case scenario in a fall election is a weakened minority - say bye-bye to the "central role".

So NDP Leader Layton can spin the

"He ought to get over it and get down to work," Mr. Layton said in a telephone interview from his Toronto riding.
"Constantly speculating about whether there's going to be an election or not, and who's responsible for making sure there's an election or not -- the Canadian public is simply not interested in this, and rightly so."

all he wants. The reality is that MP Layton does not want to give up whatever power he currently has...and who can blame him.
