(and if you are reading this blog, this means you).
Tomorrow at 9:00am Opposition Leader Stephen Harper will be announcing the Conservatives anti-corruption and accountability package.
Keep the policy rolling.
Update: You can watch the policy announcement here. I liked some of the visuals - especially Stephen Harper's Signature on the Bill - he is staking his name to it.
Update II: Here are some the highlights from the legislation.
- Banning corporate and union donations, while limiting personal donations to $1,000;
- Overhauling lobbying laws and banning all ministers, ministerial staffers or senior public officials from lobbying government for five years after leaving their post;
- Give more power to the Lobbyists Registrar, Ethics Commissioner, Information Commissioner and Auditor General, and;
- Give the Auditor General a mandate to conduct a complete review of the more than $30 billion in annual federal grants, contributions and contracts.
Update: Duff Conacher of Democracy Watch seems to be pretty happy with the Conservatives Accountability package. He would add a provision that makes politicians keep their promises, i.e. if they don't they have to resign (sounds good to me). Other than that he says this is the best package a political party has offered. Since this is his bag that is good enough for me.
