The secret Mulroney tapes

Stephen Taylor has a post up on the CBC's documentary that aired last night entitled the secret Mulroney tapes.

I, like many others, worried that this was just going to be an attack piece. To my eyes it was nothing like that at all. To me, the tapes make PM Mulroney more human, a more sympathetic figure. Which I think Peter C. Newman was trying to say all along.

I was not politically aware during Meech Lake - I was more worried about how to get rid of the zits on my face - so to see it play out, with a running commentary from the Prime Minister of the day was
fascinating. I definitely want to read more on the subject now. Was Mila Mulroney right? Was Newfoundland & Labrador Premier Clyde Wells waiting in the weeds to betray the Meech Lake Accord before the ink was even dry? Like I said, fascinating.

So if you skipped this documentary due to worries about bias be not afraid. This political junkie thought it was great.

Update: It looks like Adam Daifallah and I are in agreement.

...After watching tonight's CBC documentary on Peter Newman's Secret Mulroney Tapes, my respect for the ex-PM has gone up again, just as it did after reading the book. This man was a great leader.
