Albany Club

Others have commented on this but I thought I would throw my two cents in as well.

I went to the Book Launch for Rescuing Canada's Right last night at the Albany Club. I hooked up with Bob Tarantino before hand and we were both impressed with the turn-out upon our arrival. There were quite a few Tory insiders including former Ontario Premier Mike Harris as well CPC candidate Tony Clement.

I also met Gerry Nicholls of the National Citizen's Coalition who is a really nice guy. As Gerry mentions on his blog there was a solid blogger turnout including one not mentioned in Stephen Taylor. I have met Stephen a couple of times and he is great guy to chat politics with.

I also met Sun Media columnist Michael Taube who has the second review of the book [second to mine ;)], Rondi Adamson (who promised to post pictures) and National Post A&E columnist J. Kelly Nestruck. I got a chance to chat up Andrew Coyne again - which is always a highlight in my book.

But of course the key media buzz is around the appearance of Conrad Black. The whole thing was bizarre. I was near the entrance when the assembled media sprinted to the front. I asked Linda Leatherdale (what a name dropper eh?) what the fuss was about and she mentioned it must be Conrad Black. So here is the question - if this was a "surprise appearance" like the media have reported, why were so many members of the media there? Why did Linda Leatherdale know immediately what was going on? How often is the news just a presentation of a staged event? Paul Tuns has a good round-up of the weirdness of it all on his blog.

Anyways, it was a lot of fun and I won't soon forget it.
