The Tri-City Battleground

I was out visiting clients today and after my last appointment I turned on the radio to discover that Stephen Harper was speaking in Waterloo. I managed to get there for the end of the speech but I was able to hear the bulk of it on the radio on the way over.

It was his standard stump speech and he is clearly comfortable with it by now. The biggest thing I noticed on the radio was that the crowd was pumped and very loud.

In walking to the room I passed Harper's Communications Director William Stairs and mentioned to him that Mr. Harper sounded really good on the radio. Entering the room I saw why it was so loud - the room was packed and there was standing room only where Harper couldn't be seen.

After the speech I saw CTV reporter and blogger David Aiken so I went up and introduced myself. Very nice guy and we had enjoyable, if brief chat. He mentioned that there were good crowds in Nova Scotia. I also introduced myself to Paul Wells.

I assume that this is the first of many trips for "Team Harper" to the tri-city area and it will be interesting to see how the crowds are at those rallies. I also expect trips from "Team Martin" and I hope to be able to observe those rallies as well.
