The talk radio barometer

I know that the callers to talk radio programs are not necessarily representative of the views of the average citizen but judging from their reaction this "ban on banned handguns" is not going over very well.

I was in the car for most of the day and at 9 out of 10 callers into 1010 CFRB thought the Liberal plan was completely ineffective and just vote pandering.

Update: you can find more on this at LetItBleed. This is very smart politics on the part of the Liberals. It is pretty that there policy will do very little to stop gun crime but it is a wedge issue. This is pre-game positioning for the negative campaign that will come in the new year. Expect the Liberals to say that this is further example of how they are in tune with Canadian values and that the Conservatives are part of the National Rifle Association neo-conservative cabal that wants to have more weapons in our streets. Ya know it is not true - but it hasn't stopped the Liberals before.

Update II: Damian is all over this one as well.

...If the Liberals think that
criminals will stop committing violent crimes that are already illegal with smuggled weapons that are already illegal just because the Liberals make it more illegal, they're deluding themselves.
