The values campaign

I just watched the video of Paul Martin's speech in Winnipeg. If you are a Liberal you probably liked it. It reminds me of the way I used to think about Paul Martin. I have said this before - I used to quite like Paul Martin.

I am an idealist (or want to be) and his bold talks used to do something for me. I like his convention speech back when Bono stole the show. The problem is that the more I pay attention to Paul Martin the more I realize that is all his has - bold talk. There is not that much more than that.

Was it smart for him to go positive in his speech. Probably. But of lot of the "red meat" sounds pretty tired to me. But you would expect nothing less from me. The question is how will the 59% who want change treat this. Paul Martin is saying, fundamentally (I had to take that shot), they are not the party of change, they are the party who has taken the country where we are today. Good point. The country is in good shape. But, but, 59% still want change knowing all of that.

It is uphill now for the Liberals and their positioning against Harper just doesn't work as well this time around. I don't see this latest Liberal strategy lasting past the debates.
