When the news of the RCMP investigation on to the income trust announcement broke I mentioned that this was a similar situation to Adscam insofar as the choice was between corruption and incompetence.
I have always thought that the Liberals were competent so you can see where I was leaning on that choice. Bob Tarantino (politely) took me to task on the choice by pointing out that it was a false dilemma by saying, why not both?
After the "notwithstanding bombshell" of last night I am in complete agreement with Bob, they can be and are both.
Paul Martin and his crew are so desperate that they pulled something completely out of the ether. It is well known that the Liberals have not taken a majority of the seats in Quebec since PM Trudeau patriated the Constitution. Futher, Quebec actaully uses the Notwithstanding Clause. This announcement will go over like a lead balloon there and further erode Liberal chances there. And is there any appetite for another round of constitutional negotiations on this issue, especially since it will help the PQ/BQ alliance yet again. This move is impossibly stupid.
At least Mike Duffy spanked Brian Tobin on the issue last night. (click on COUNTDOWN: Panel Discusses...)
