Allow me to break this election down

to its' worst aspect.

I know that Canada does not directly elect their leader. But campaigns are now built in such a way that, in effect, that is what we are doing. Furthermore, Paul Martin is trying to save himself by making the election into a direct competition between himself and Stephen Harper.

So here is the deal.

Paul Martin is just not comfortable in his own skin. Watch the interview on Canada AM this morning. Slow down! The man talks a mile-a-minute. Even if he has something good to say it is delivered so fast, in such a panicked way, that it takes away from his ability to get the message across. At the end of an answer you left wondering what he actually said.

He just doesn't feel Prime Ministerial.

Update: Bob Tarantino helps me prove my point by linking to the cover of the Globe and Mail.

Paul Martin said in the interview that Stephen Harper hasn't changed in 10 years. What did Stephen Harper say yesterday? Check the Globe's Headline: Harper says he's 'evolved'.

Paul Martin said in the interview that anti-poverty groups prefer his tax cut to a cut in the GST. What does the Globe splash on the front page? GST plan proves better for the poor.

Paul Martin says there is chasm of difference between himself and Stephen Harper in terms of values. What does the Globe splash on the front page? Martin's popularity takes hit in poll.

As they say, timing is everything.
