John Ivison has an interesting article regarding the serious potential for a Conservative breakthrough in London. Although I don't live in London I am only an hour away and I am there all the time.
...With the retirement of incumbent Liberal MPs in the surrounding rural ridings of Chatham-Kent-Essex and Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, the Conservatives are now well-placed to surround the city in a ring of blue (Joe Preston is heavily favoured to retain his Elgin-Middlesex-London seat to the south of the London). But gains within the city limits would indicate the Tories were breaking out of their rural base. London West now looks to be leaning Conservative, and the party has a good chance in Mr. O’Brien’s old London-Fanshawe riding, where a strong NDP performance may eat into Liberal support and allow the Tory, Dan Mailer, to come up the middle. The Liberals hope Joe Fontana, the popular Labour Minister, can hold on to London North Centre, but even he will not be safe if the Tories maintain their momentum. “The urban ridings in this part of the country are not like urban ridings in metropolitan Toronto or Hamilton. And when they go, they do tend to go together,” said Paul Nesbitt-Larking, chair of political science at Huron University College. “The last bastion to go would be London North Centre, but even that is not unassailable.”
Looks like Gretzky will shoot and score - Al that is.
