This made me go hmmm.
I think the media, the media often doesn't, but I think the media ought to look at itself occassionally too. I think there were some difficult times through this. I think your network in particular [CTV] had a reporter on our plane bragging about bringing governments down.
Who is he talking about about? David Akin spent most of his time with the Conservative campaign (except for a week with each of the Liberals and NDP). Rosemary Thompson was mainly with the NDP. Tom Clark has kind of a roving reporter. Roger Smith was with the Liberals quite a bit. As was Robert Fife.
I thought only Conservatives blamed the media.
Update: Paul Wells has the answer.
...Then there were the pesky reporters, including one from "your own network," Mr. Jenkins told Craig Oliver, who was sitting on the Martin plane joking about bringing down the government of Canada.
Fun pop quiz: Can anyone name a campaign since the dawn of human history when reporters weren't sitting on the candidate's campaign plane, joking about bringing down the government? In Babylon, the reporters used to sit on Hammurabi's campaign plane joking about bringing down the government. Except that this time, the pesky kids in the press seats had the mystical power to make it happen.
Because, you see, none of this is the Martin crew's actual fault.
Now I need a Scooby Snack.
