It seems the buzz in some media circles is that Paul Martin is trying to do a replay of Trudeau circa 1979. By staying on as Liberal leader, although giving up house duties, he can orchestrate an election later in the year and rise from the ashes like the political phoenix that he is us. Er, expect for an unfortunate thing called facts.
First off Mr Martin has shown himself to be patently incapable of being Prime Minister. What are the odds that, if there were a snap election, half the party would say screw it, let's go with Bill Graham.
Speaking of a snap election. Can someone explain to me how the hell the Liberals could force a snap election? This is not 1979. This is not the Liberals and NDP bringing down the PCs with the help of the Creditistes sitting on their hands. The Liberals do not have the numbers even with the help of the NDP (103 + 29 = 132). Does any think that the Bloc Quebecois wants to fight another election after this latest result?
There are two groups of people who want to fight another election with Paul Martin. The board and the Conservatives. That tells you how likely this conspiracy theory is to coming true.

Yeah, I agree with your comments… that’s what I think too. Though it sure is fun to hear the conspiracy theorists go to town with this one. But no way does this conspiracy have any legs… too many facts and too much reality get in the way.

You can’t rule out any theory which is consistent with the assumption that Paul Martin is a brainless ass. He’d have to be batshit crazy to try it… I think he’ll do it.
