via Sports Illustrated,
The Blue Jays are a club on the upswing, with a more balanced lineup and an abundance of power pitching. With the Yankees and Red Sox in various stages of transition, Toronto will be a serious factor in the brutal AL East -- but only if Halladay stays healthy.
As does this,
If everything goes right for the Blue Jays -- Halladay is healthy, Burnett fulfills his promise, Ryan is lights out at the end of games and everyone hits -- they might put a scare into their richer big brothers. If not, the AL East looks like the same old Yankees-Red Sox division once again.

“If everything goes rights…” How often does everything go right?
In all likelihood, the Jays will compete with the Red Sox, A’s and Indians for the Wild Card because Boston and Cleveland are worse than they were last year, the A’s better and the Jays underperformed last season because of injuries.

Keep an eye out for Tampa Bay and new manager Joe Maddon. They won’t win the division, but they’ll be much more competitive.

I am not saying the Jays will win the World Series, or even the division, I am just saying they will be more competitive this year. Which is all you can ask for at this point.
