Canada, leader of a United Nations committee formed to reduce pollution, probably won't meet its target to do so under the Kyoto Protocol, Environment Minister Rona Ambrose said.``My departmental officials tell me that it's more than likely not going to happen,'' she said in an interview yesterday. In 2002, Canada's government promised to cut emissions of gases such as carbon dioxide, which trap heat in the earth's atmosphere, 6 percent from 1990 levels by 2012.
The question is whether any country who signed onto the Kyoto Protocol will meet their targets.

It’s nice she is getting endorsed by the Canadian Chemical Producers’ Association, too.

Let’s see Conservitives in power for @two months - not much being done yet.
The LIEberals signed the accord years ago - nothing done - now there is so much concern about not meeting the quotas?
The LIEberals have no need to complain, it seems it is up to the Conseratives to fix their mess - again.

I sorry, but this is the same country that does not take care of the environment in the BC forests and then wants a special lumber deal.

Certainly not a surprise - but there are some countries that will. Of course, they didn’t have Liberal PMs who overpromised and underdelivered.

Meet our commitments or not - it won’t make the slightest impact on global temperatures. Even if every Canadian stopped breathing and burning things today no one would be able to measure the impact. Kyoto is purely symbolic. I suppose we could give it our full symbolic support. But not any real support.
