Travel help required

I have been researching about a family vacation today, trying to figure out a good place to take the kids - where the Mrs. can have a little break as well. I can't find enough reviews to my liking so I thought I would see if any of you have any advice.

It is has to be something within a reasonable driving distance with a 2 year old in the car (prob. 3-4 hours tops). So far I have looked at:

Clevelands House (expensive but looks good for the kids)
Bayview Wildwood Resort
Delawana
Pinelands Resort
Severn Lodge
Pow-Wow Point Lodge

Any of you stayed at any of these places?

What have ‘your’ travel plans to do with anything remotely cogent to a political discussion??? Pffft…

Nothing. And neither did my comments on the Olympics. Or the Blue Jays. Or a myriad of other things. My blog. My content.

Mr. Staples,

Sorry I can’t help you out. The jack-ass who posted above me is less sympathetic.

My only advice is to blackberry Brison. He is always quick to reply, and guarantees customer satisfaction.

Delawana is fun. Our kids (ages 1 through 13 at the time) had a good time. Live entertainment and movies in the evening. Lots to do, especially if you like the water. Other sports/rec, playgrounds and a pool.

And there is a political angle: the resort has a decent library that within its collection a few good political books you might want to look at.

All that said, Deerhurst in Huntsville is much nicer. If you like water (indoor and outdoor), it is better although it has less to do otherwise. I assume the kids don’t golf or ride horses yet.

Deerhurst is okay, but it wouldn’t be my first recommendation for a family trip. Compared to your other options, it can be expensive and impersonal.

We’ve stayed at two small resort-type places near Dwight:

Lumina Resort is great. You get a nice, rustic cabin, with great wholesome breakfasts and dinners served at the main lodge. There are always kids around for your little one to play with at the beach. http://www.luminaresort.com/

Norloch Lodge is also very nice. Compared to Lumina it is smaller, with fewer kids, and a smaller beach area, but their dining room produces some outstanding gourmet dinners. http://www.norloch.com/

Our current favourite summer vacation spot is Carson’s Camp, in Sauble Beach. They have trailers and cottages for rent (we’ve stayed in both), it’s DIY for meals, which makes it cheaper and more flexible that a meal-plan lodge type place, and it’s next to a fantastic beach. We’ve turned it into an annual trip with some other couples we know who also have kids. http://www.carsonscamp.on.ca/

We’ve also booked a week at Billie Bear this summer. We haven’t been there before, so I can’t review it yet. http://www.billiebear.on.ca/
