I wondered about this

There was something that was bothering me about MP Stronach's position on one-member, one-vote. Stephen Taylor explains what it was.

...when Belinda was running to be leader of the Conservative Party, she vigourously defended the practice of equal riding representation. In equal riding representation, if a riding in Quebec had 10 members it should be equal to a riding in Alberta with 8,000 members. She argued that each riding should be allotted 100 points (the points represented the % of the membership vote in that riding for each candidate) and that the leadership contest should be added up riding-by-riding, 100 points at a time. The strategy for Belinda was to buy up memberships in Conservative-poor Quebec ridings to muscle against Stephen Harper's solid base of tens-of-thousands of singular members in Western Canada.

What Belinda act in self interest. Naw. She wouldn’t do that…

Speaking of buying things, did anyone read the article today about how Brison took his staff out for dinner ringing up close to 2000 dollars! This was AFTER he had been turfed from minister.

You can guess who got stuck with the bill, yup, the dear ol’ department of Public Works ie Taxpayer extraodinaire.

Entitlement anyone?

You know, I think that Brison taking his staff — provided they were ministerial staff — out to a farewell dinner on the government’s dime doesn’t bother me so much.

It’s lunches for two that cost hundreds that other people rang up that really stick in the craw.

How many staff? If 10, then the bill is way too hefty. If 40 or 50, then what’s the big deal (although it pains me to defend that little slimeball).

Candace, I believe the number of staff was 17 http://www.torontosun.com/News/Canada/2006/04/07/1524089-sun.html
