Whatever will get the Liberals back to power anyway. That is what I read in Jane Taber's column. It sounds to me like what one does in a job interview - you spin your negatives into a positive. It is not lack of focus, it is the ability to multi-task. It is not stubborness, it is a commitment to doing things right. And for the Liberals it is not a lack of principles, it is pragmatism.
The title, "Liberals contemplate uniting the left as a way back to office" does not reflect the content of the article very well and you have to wonder how well uniting the left will go when the powers-that-be in the left want to destroy the Liberals. See below.
Or see Bob Tarantino.

As much as various folks may wish otherwise, it isn't journalists, pundits, news anchors or bloggers who will decide when and where (and if) the LPC moves on to its reward. It isn't even up to the other federal political parties. It's up to voters. And despite the spin that has been proferred in the wake of January 23, there's very little evidence that voters are in any mood to dispatch the Grits.

When PET took the LIberal party to the left it was the death of the traditional party. He engineered the move so well and so completely that the party core has disappeared along with ethics, values and meaning. The LPC as it stands today is an empty shell but still a self serving political organism that exists only for its own sake. We see and hear the evidence of this every time a liberal opens their yap.
It serves us well to keep up the pressure on these self important parasites by continuing to shed light on their BS.

Alot of conservative bloggers seem preoccupied with what the LPC is doing. Clearly, the minority position does not sit well with conservatives. Day after day I read posts at the Blogging Tories to learn about the latest conspiracy theory or to hear how unfairly the CPC is treated by the media. The endless moaning is annoying AND entertaining, much like the local drunk. The majority so deeply craved on the right remains elusive at this point. Clearly, the voters will have the last say next time around. The public might award Harper a majority..or..they might return the Liberals to power. This really pisses the crybabies off.

Based on sheer numbers Tarantino has a point that the Libs still got 30% of the vote.
But consider what percentage were those who, after years of “the sky will fall under the radical conservatives” rhetoric put forth by the Libs, and regurgitated in the media, were simply scared into staying with the status quo.
I suspect that after two or so years of the sky not falling, the Lib’s numbers will fall below 30%.
And imagine, if, rather than the sky not falling, it acutally ends up being a nice, blue, pleasant to look at sky.
Sadly for the Libs, their “living for the moment” strategy over the past several years will likely mean that their decline is in its infant stages.

I am bewildered by this from Taber’s column:
“Mr. Gregg said Mr. Ignatieff’s strategy of trying to persuade Liberals to go to the centre-left could play into the hands of Mr. Rae, who is considering running for the Liberal leadership and has spoken about trying to unite the left to bring the Liberals back to office.”
Is Bob Rae going to be the right-wing candidate in the leadership race?

If the CPC can establish a solid base of 40 seats in Ontario and 20 in Quebec, the LPC can do whatever it likes. It will be out of power for at least a decade, regardless of whether the CPC has a minority or a majority.

The terminal decline of the Liberal Party of Canada is about to move into it’s penultimate stage, when it’s support begins to melt away like the snow in springtime, followed by it’s ultimate demise.

Is that you, Chester?

Whoah, whoah, hold on there.
There’s only one Chester.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the tune that Prophet fella is singin.
Actually, Liberal support will slowly but steadily decline over the next several years, caused by
1)respectable government/unscary policies (Libs’cries of skyfalling failing to materialize, and
2) continued revelations of past Lib corruption (ie. gun registry) juxtaposed to the CPC “clean government” persona.
CPC will be in power for about a decade.

I think Chester’s right about the CPC being in power for a decade (perhaps longer), but what’s going to emerge in place of the Liberal carcass.
