The Tim Horton's vs. Starbucks conflict continues

Check out this Press Release.

In an exclusive one-on-one interview, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke at length with TSN's Gord Miller about the great Canadian game of hockey. The five-minute conversation, which took place last Thursday at the Calgary Saddledome during the Avalanche @ Flames game, will air on Thursday, April 20 during TSN's two-hour special NHL on TSN:Stanley Cup Playoff Preview Show, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. Harper talks with Miller about his love of hockey, his favourite Canadian teams in the playoffs, and being a dedicated hockey Dad to son Ben.

The cynic in you always goes to the negative with politicians - geez, what an act. But in this case there is no doubt that Stephen Harper is your typical, middle-class, hockey fanatic. Well, expect that he is smarter than what, 99.9% of us.

60 per cent of Albertans want more respect: poll Last Updated Tue, 18 Apr 2006 07:35:26 EDT CBC News Alberta’s economy may be cooking with oil and gas, and Prime Minister Stephen Harper may call Calgary home, but a poll done for CBC News shows 60 per cent of Albertans don’t think the rest of Canada gives the province the respect it deserves.

Wonder if he’ll pitch his book, too…

(Ok, just read it. He does.)

Very interesting: “Professional sports was equivalent to prostitution in the eyes of a lot of the establishment of the day. It’s kind of hard to believe now, but it was a very emotional subject, whether athletes should be paid…

I think you hit the nail on the head. I think Harper is trying to define who he is as a man, and as a Prime Minister.

Paul Martin would show up at football games, figure skating, water polo, you name it. He wanted to be everything and anything.

Ol’ Steveo is trying to be down home regular guy. Has Easter at home in a modest house, goes to the local hockey game, shows up for his own kids morning practice, walks them to school…. and you know what? It’ real. People see him and say “Hey, I kinda do the same thing.” People can relate to him, unlike a certain shipping magnate worth 250,000,000 dollars born and raised.
